Musharraf admits JeM carried out attacks in India during his tenure

first_imgIslamabad: Pakistan’s former president Pervez Musharraf has admitted that Masood Azhar-led Jaish-e-Mohammed carried out attacks in India during his tenure on the instructions of the intelligence agencies. Musharraf, 75, who is currently in Dubai, said that the Pakistan government’s crackdown on the JeM, which also tried to assassinate him twice, was a good move. The JeM recently claimed responsibility for the February 14 Pulwama attack that left 40 CRPF personnel dead, increasing tensions between India and Pakistan. Last month, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi during an interview with CNN said that Azhar is in Pakistan, but the government can act against him only if India presents “solid” and “inalienable” evidence that can stand in a court of law. Amid mounting international pressure after the Pulwama attack, Pakistan on Tuesday detained 44 members of the banned militant outfits, including Azhar’s son and brother. “This is a good move. I have always said that the JeM is a terrorist organisation and they only had carried out a suicide attack in an attempt to assassinate me. Action should be taken against them. I am happy the Musharraf, who also served as Pakistan’s army chief, said that the action against the JeM should have been taken earlier.last_img read more

Miami Open: Agut eliminates Djokovic

first_imgMiami: Spain’s Roberto Bautista Agut, ranked 25th in the world, became the surprise of the ninth day at the Miami Open Masters 1000, overcoming the world number one Serbian Novak Djokovic 1-6, 7-5 and 6-3 to advance to the quarter-finals. Djokovic, 31, who was looking to get his seventh title in the Masters 1000’s most important tournament of the season in the US, saw Bautista Agut, who this year had already beaten him in Doha, overcome a setback in the first set on Tuesday night, in just 35 minutes, to then lead the greatest comeback so far in the tournament. Bautista Agut, took two hours and 30 minutes on the new court at the Hard Rock Stadium, with a break of 40 minutes due to rain, to achieve his third victory, second in a row, in the 10 duels he has played with Djokovic (7-3), reports Efe news. The Spaniard, 30, will play in the quarter-final against US’ John Isner, seventh seed, and current defending champion of the tournament, who won 7-6 (5) and 7-6 (3) against the nineteenth seeded England’s Kyle Edmun. In the first set against Djokovic, Bautista Agut began with very poor tennis, full of unforced errors and without a consistent serve, so that the Serb could overwhelm him in just 35 minutes. Djokovic showed his best performance with a powerful and safe serve, as well as placing the right shots for which the Spanish tennis player had no answers. But the story changed in the second set. Bautista Agut rediscovered his best level of play and responded firmly in the exchange to reach a 5-4 when the rain came, and with it the temporary suspension. The stoppage favored the Spanish tennis player, who focused his game even more and even though Djokovic had a breakpoint at 5-5 after the rain, the world number one failed to react in time and lost the set to the Spaniard, who tied the duel at 1 set each.last_img read more

Ohio State football coach Urban Meyer stresses 4 to 6 A to

Coach Urban Meyer stands on the sidelines during a game against San Diego. OSU won, 42-7.Credit: Shelby Lum / Photo editorAside from the shoulder pads and helmets popping against each other, coaches yelling out orders or the shrill of whistles, there’s been one phrase that has echoed throughout the Woody Hayes Athletic Center during Ohio State spring practice.“4 to 6, A to B.”The phrase has seemingly become second nature to the Buckeyes, as coach Urban Meyer works to give his program’s culture a facelift throughout the spring football season.“We have a mantra, we have a culture that I want to make sure we don’t lose,” Meyer said after his team’s first spring practice March 4. “What I’m looking for is simplicity, and 4 to 6 and A to B. If you can’t give us that, then we gotta move on and get another player that will.”The mantra of playing hard for four to six seconds, and rushing hard during a play from one direct point to another, is so important to OSU’s football coach that he mentioned it four times March 4, in what was his first press conference since the Buckeyes’ 40-35 loss to Clemson in the 2014 Discover Orange Bowl Jan. 3.It’s been such a big part of the culture change for OSU so far in 2014 that the words continue to trickle down across the roster and coaching staff.“It’s going to be about 4 to 6, A to B. That’s what we’re going to be about,” assistant head coach and defensive line coach Larry Johnson said March 27 when asked about his unit specifically. “We’re going to work as hard as we can in 4 to 6 seconds, and go from point A to point B as fast as we can.”The coaching staff preaches the phrase in nearly every interview session during spring ball, establishing the assertion time and again.“I know you guys are getting tired of hearing ‘power of the unit’ and ‘4 to 6 seconds,’ but here’s reality: If that’s what is truly important, and it becomes important to our players that 11 guys show up at the ball and it doesn’t matter really which number gets there first … then it’s really, really important,” cornerbacks coach Kerry Coombs said to reporters after practice April 3.Meyer said he knew he and his staff had work to do to shore some things up on the team — particularly at defending the pass, as the team gave up an average of 268 yards per game through the air, good for 112th in the country — to even have a chance at success in 2014. And fixing the mistakes that cost them begins with that one simple phrase.“I don’t want a team that’s scared to make mistakes. I don’t want a team that’s thinking,” Meyer said March 4. “I want a team that goes 4 to 6 seconds, and when they put their foot on the ground, it’s A to B, it’s fast and it’s as hard as you go.”Aside from the loss to the Tigers in the Orange Bowl, OSU also fell to Michigan State Dec. 7 in the Big Ten Championship Game, 34-24, crushing the chances it had of competing for the national title. The back-to-back losses are the first for Meyer in his tenure as OSU coach, after ripping off 24 straight wins since arriving in Columbus in 2012. With nearly eight months for that feeling to sit and ruminate in his and his team’s minds before the Buckeyes have another chance to line up against an opponent, it’s clear he wants things to change.“Urban has set the tone very clearly, nothing else matters,” Coombs said. “4 to 6 seconds, point A to point B, all of us doing the same thing, going as hard as we can and the kids have bought into that.“And they’re not allowed to not buy into it, to be perfectly honest with you. It’s not an option. It is the way it’s going to be.”With the annual Spring Game at Ohio Stadium as the last scheduled, organized practice before fall camp, Meyer stressed the importance of adhering to the play-hard culture.“I want to make sure that culture’s out there,” Meyer said. “There’s never been a team, in 27 years of coaching, that team that didn’t play the hardest, didn’t win the game. Lack of execution and lack of technique — you can overcome that with incredible effort. You can’t overcome lack of effort with great technique. It doesn’t happen. At some point you’ll fail … These kids have heard that nonstop from the coaching staff.”The spring game is set for 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Ohio Stadium. The season opener against Navy is scheduled for Aug. 30 at noon in Baltimore at M&T Bank Stadium. read more

2018 Big Ten Preview Maryland Terrapins

Location: College Park, Maryland 2017 Record: 4-8 (2-7 Big Ten) Head Coach: Matt Canada2018 Record: 3-1 (1-0 Big Ten)Record vs. OSU: 0-4What has happened thus far in 2018:Matt Canada took over as acting head coach following D.J. Durkin being placed on administrative leave for alleged abuse to players, which allegedly contributed to the death of offensive lineman Jordan McNair on May 29. Maryland started the season upsetting No. 18 Texas 34-29 by forcing three turnovers in the fourth quarter and scoring 10 points late to snatch the win away from the Longhorns. The following week, Maryland claimed an easy victory against Bowling Green 45-14, but then faltered the following week by getting blown out at home by unranked Temple 35-14. Last week, Maryland rebounded from its loss by opening up Big Ten conference play with an easy win over Minnesota 42-13. Impact Player:Senior running back Ty Johnson has been leading the way for the Maryland offense. In four games, Johnson has had 40 carries for 300 yards and two touchdowns. This gives Johnson an average of 7.5 yards per carry and two games of over 100 yards rushing against Bowling Green and Minnesota. Johnson is not the only threat in Maryland’s offense, but he is one of its most prominent players and should continue to have success as the season goes on. Strengths:Maryland’s strength has easily been its running game thus far in the season. Maryland has already had three rushers with over 100 yards rushing each. Freshman running back Anthony McFarland has emerged in the last couple of games as a forceful weapon for Maryland, already rushing for over 291 yards on only 27 carries. Against Minnesota, he rushed for 112 yards on six carries for two touchdowns, giving him an average of 18.7 yards per carry. Sophomore running back Tayon Fleet-Davis has also rushed for three touchdowns over the first four games of play. Weaknesses:Maryland has shown that it can be prone to bad losses, with a 35-14 home defeat to Temple. Though the Terrapins utilize the run game for most of the offense, they could use more from redshirt freshman quarterback Kasim Hill, who is throwing for 129 yards per game so far this season. For Maryland to be a major contender, it will have to bring more of a dual-threat offense to the table. read more

Tuchel explains Neymars best position

first_imgParis Saint-Germain boss Thomas Tuchel will continue to use Neymar as a number 10 and explained why ahead of tonight’s Ligue 1 clash with Stade ReimsThe 26-year-old was moved from the wing to the middle in last Sunday’s 3-1 win at Rennes. It marked a big change for Neymar, who has primarily operated on the left wing since arriving from Barcelona last year. But Tuchel has done this a few times now and explained he intends to continue doing so as it allows Neymar to be more involved in attacking plays.“Of course he likes to be there and we like to have him in the number 10 position because he is involved in every attack, not only from the left,” said Tuchel in a press conference.“He has the chance to be a bit more free and be in the centre of the game and we have the chance to involve him in every attack we make.“If you involve Neymar in your attacks, there’s a high possibility that you create chances.PSG, Neymar, Ligue 1PSG ultras sent a warning letter to Neymar Manuel R. Medina – September 14, 2019 Brazilian superstar Neymar might play today his first game of the season for Paris Saint-Germain and the team’s ultras have warned him.“This is how I think about players, so what can we get from them and what do we want from them and this is why it’s a good option to play with Ney in the centre.”Neymar has managed four goals and two assists in five Ligue 1 games this season.PSG currently lead the league standings by five points from Lille after winning all six of their opening games.Total focus from @neymarjr 👊🔴🔵 pic.twitter.com/bfSCkMWpgA— Paris Saint-Germain (@PSG_English) September 25, 2018last_img read more

Sturridge should be in the Three Lions squad Northcroft

first_imgLiverpool striker Daniel Sturridge should have been included in the England squad according to Jonathon Northcroft.Sturridge’s omission from the squad has raised a few eyebrows considering the player’s return to fitness and improved performance this season most recently his stunning equaliser in Liverpool’s draw at Chelsea last weekend.“Daniel Sturridge, in terms of talent, and someone who is in good shape and form – England should be biting the hand off to get Sturridge in there,” Northcroft disclosed to Sky Sports. “I would have him in the team.“I do not understand that one [Sturridge omission], I would actually have him in the team. He is a slightly different player to Harry Kane if you want a No 9 and a No 10. Throwing Raheem Sterling in there, there are some incredible talents.Roberto Firmino, LiverpoolVirgil van Dijk praises Roberto Firmino after Liverpool’s win Andrew Smyth – September 14, 2019 Virgil van Dijk hailed team-mate Roberto Firmino after coming off the bench to inspire Liverpool to a 3-1 comeback win against Newcastle United.“Considering Daniel Sturridge is in the best moment he has been in for four or five years I think that it is time to get him back in the England squad.“Nathaniel Chalobah is the unusual selection. That is the selection that to me says ‘this is a policy, this is Gareth Southgate’s policy of what have you done for the development sides, if you do well there then you get in the England [senior] squad.“Generally, it has been serving England quite well, but for this one, you also have to reward merit, and it is the Sturridge one that sticks in my throat a bit.”Sturridge would be hoping to impress once again against City today if he’s called upon.last_img read more
