first_imgIn ‘Challenging Transition,’ Navajo Generation Station Will Stay Open Through 2019 FacebookTwitterLinkedInEmailPrint分享The Hill:The coal-fired Navajo Generating Station has obtained the approval it needs to stay open through 2019.The Salt River Project, an Arizona utility that partially owns the plant and is negotiating on behalf of the other owners, announced Wednesday that the federal Bureau of Reclamation and Bureau of Indian Affairs had completed their environmental review of the lease extension. The plant’s owners, which include Reclamation, lease the plant’s land from the Navajo Nation. They had originally planned to close it this year, but the Trump administration and the Navajo Nation pushed for a renewal, and the other utilities involved agreed to it.“A great deal of hard work from a number of dedicated individuals representing the Navajo Nation, the owners and the federal government made this important step possible,” Mike Hummel, deputy general manager of resources and finance at Salt River Project, which manages the plant, said in a statement.“We are grateful for their effort as this agreement provides meaningful benefits for all involved and creates a path forward during this challenging transition,” he said. The utilities involved with the plant are looking to close it, citing economic pressures like the low costs of natural gas.But the plant, along with a coal mine on Navajo land that feeds it, provides more than a thousand jobs, mainly to Navajos. The Navajo Nation is still working to keep the plant open beyond 2019.Arizona coal plant to stay open through 2019Utility Dive:The largest coal plant in the Western United States will keep operating through 2019 after its owners received approval from the federal Bureau of Reclamation and Bureau of Indian Affairs to extend its lease on Wednesday. The plant’s owners, including Reclamation and a group of utilities, had planned to close the 2,250 MW Navajo Generating Station (NGS) in 2018. The Navajo Nation, which owns the land on which the plant sits, voted to extend its lease until 2019, but needed final approval from the federal agency. Evolutionists Endorse Sin

first_imgWhen evolution is left out of the research, sometimes the findings coincide with traditional values.  Science Daily reported on an economist who found a shocking thing: money doesn’t buy happiness.  “Across a worldwide sample of 37 countries, rich and poor, ex-Communist and capitalist, Richard Easterlin and his co-authors shows strikingly consistent results: over the long term, a sense of well-being within a country does not go up with income.”  But did we need science to tell us that?Darwinism is not just superfluous; it is downright evil.  By turning good and evil into amoral illusions, and by making people pawns of a mythical evolutionary past, evolutionists open the door to a flood of vices.  Some of Darwin’s contemporaries understood the danger his theory posed.  Adam Sedgwick, his geology professor, wrote:There is a moral or metaphysical part of nature as well as a physical.  A man who denies this is deep in the mire of folly.  ’Tis the crown and glory of organic science that it does through final cause, link material and moral; and yet does not allow us to mingle them in our first conception of laws, and our classification of such laws, whether we consider one side of nature or the other.  You have ignored this link; and, if I do not mistake your meaning, you have done your best in one or two pregnant cases to break it.  Were it possible (which, thank God, it is not) to break it, humanity, in my mind, would suffer a damage that might brutalize it, and sink the human race into a lower grade of degradation than any into which it has fallen since its written records tell us of its history. Two world wars and a host of secular totalitarian dictatorships in the 20th century are the result.  See What Hath Darwin Wrought? as described in the 09/27/2010.  After all the social wreckage they have caused, Darwinists remain unrepentant, as the above articles show, still committed to preaching amoral ideas from the mire of folly.(Visited 14 times, 1 visits today)FacebookTwitterPinterestSave分享0 Crime pays in Darwinism, apparently.  Some biologists find good in what most of us find evil.  After all, in Darwinism, evil is only an illusion.Corruption:  Victims of corruption may have a different outlook on what Science Daily told its readers:Francisco beda, an evolutionary biology professor at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and Edgar Duez of Harvard University found that power and corruption may play a role in maintaining overall societal cooperation.    A report of their research is published in the journal Evolution.Gossip:  In evolution, gossip is no longer a sin.  In the wake of WikiLeaks, Live Science asked, “Is Gossip Good?”  The answer is found in Darwinian theory:Some researchers have argued that the tendency toward jawing about our neighbors is rooted in our evolutionary past.  In his book “Grooming, Gossip, and the Evolution of Language,” (Harvard University Press, 1998), Oxford anthropologist Robin Dunbar argues that gossip and language evolved as primate groups got too large to bond by grooming.  In other words, instead of picking lice off each other, humans buy “US Weekly.”last_img read more

Did Alfred Hitchcock Actually Direct the Psycho “Shower Scene”?

first_imgThe most famous scene of Alfred Hitchcock’s career may have actually been shot by famed illustrator, Saul Bass.Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho reigns as one of the most critically acclaimed movies of all time. The film has scared audiences for 54 years and the directoral genius Alfred Hitchcock gets most of the credit. But in some breaking news, first reported by Vashi Nedomansky, the famous ‘Shower Scene’ may have not actually been shot by Hitchcock. Rather, there’s now compelling evidence to suggest that illustrator Saul Bass was the actual director of the scene.Photo Courtesy of filmmakeriqHitchcock and Bass both claim to have directed the scene but evidence of Saul’s involvement extends far past speculation. Bass was commissioned as a Pictorial Consultant for the scene, for which he created 48 stylized storyboards. Which bear striking resemblance to the actual shots used in Psycho. Moreover, Bass had the following to say about his experience shooting Psycho:“When the time came to shoot, I was on stage near Hitch, who was sitting in his elevated director’s chair in his Buddha mode, hands folded on his belly. He asked me to set up the first shot, as per my storyboard. After I checked it through the camera, I turned to him and said ‘Here it is.’ Then Hitch said ‘Go ahead, roll it.’ It was an amazing moment. On Hitch’s set, no one would issue orders other than Hitch. So I swallowed hard, gulped and said ‘Roll camera! . . . Action!’ He sat back in the chair, encouraging me, benignly nodding his head periodically, and giving me the ‘Roll’ signal as I matched each shot to the storyboard.”The story seems too vivid to have been made up but to accept it’s validity is to take credit away from Hitchcock. Hitchcock obviously denied the claim by stating:“He [Saul Bass] did only one scene, but I didn’t use his montage. He was supposed to do the titles, but since he was interested in the picture, I just let him lay out the sequence of the detective going up the stairs, just before he is stabbed.”The world will probably never definitively know who shot the famous “shower scene” but what we do know is Bass’s illustrations are strikingly incredibly similar to the final shots in Psycho. Furthermore, Bass was paid $17,000 for his work, which would have been a lot of money for a commissioned illustrator, but not for a hired director. The following video by Vashi Nedomansky shows Bass’s illustrations side by side with the actual shots from the scene. Take a look and let us know what you think. Was the most famous scene in Psycho shot by Saul Bass? Tell us in the comments below.last_img read more
