Southland Conference Announces Spring 2018 Commissioner’s Honor Roll

first_imgSpring 2018 Commissioner’s Honor Roll | 2017-18 Academic AwardsFRISCO, Texas – A total of 1,379 Southland Conference student-athletes are members of the Spring 2018 Commissioner’s Honor Roll, the league announced Tuesday. UIW leads the Southland with 148 total selections across the sports of baseball, men’s basketball, women’s basketball, men’s golf, women’s golf, softball, men’s tennis, women’s tennis, men’s track & field and women’s track & field. Central Arkansas earned 135 spots on the honor roll, followed by Abilene Christian (125), McNeese (124), Lamar (111), Northwestern State (111), Sam Houston State (104), Southeastern Louisiana (103) and Stephen F. Austin (100). Texas A&M-Corpus Christi garnered 97 selections, followed by Houston Baptist (93), Nicholls (65) and New Orleans (63). “We are thrilled to acknowledge the great academic work of so many Southland Conference student-athletes during the spring semester,” Southland Commissioner Tom Burnett said. “It’s simply remarkable to see these hard-working students, with so many other things they’re involved with, continue to improve in the classroom on their way to graduation.” Of the total honor roll selections, 300 student-athletes posted perfect 4.00 GPAs. This year’s spring list brings the total for the 2017-18 academic year to 2,437 honor roll student-athletes in both semesters, up from 2,379 in 2016-17. The total of 536 perfect GPAs between the fall 2017 and spring 2018 honor rolls is also a marked improvement from 481 last year. The Southland Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll acknowledges participants in all sports sponsored by the league and its member institutions. The honor roll recognizes student-athletes who maintained a minimum 3.00 GPA. Student-athletes must have been eligible to compete in a conference sport during the academic year in which the nomination occurs.last_img read more
